Sashiko quilting

When I started quilting, I went to the public library and check out a bunch of books on quilts and quilting. I was fascinated by so many styles and techniques. And fell in love with sashiko quilting. Sashiko was created in old Japan by peasants to patch indigo blue garments cloth as thread were scarce and therefore valuable. What a wonderful idea to recycle clothes! Blue is my favorite color and I thought it was really amazing what could be done by contrasting dark blue fabric and white stiches.
Here is my try. I used denin from old pants to make a small curtain for my living room door.

I haven't hung them yet, but I am thinking of using bambu sticks.

I love the big stiches. I think with time I can get them more uniform.

Here is how the back looks like. Posted by Picasa
