The Bonnaroo Experience

We had quite an interesting experience last week. We went to Bonnaroo Music Festival with some other 80,000 people. I can tell you, it was a massive camping trip. To get started, there was a huge traffic jam at the entrance. The good thing was that everybody had such a nice attitude and it felt to me that it was fun to be stuck in traffic. This is the way to go.

We were planning to set the tent before dark, but no way. This year there was a family camping area and it was so nice to be close to other families with kids. Several 4-year old kids and Gabriel had a lot of fun playing with his new friends. I was amazed to see license plates from all over the country. Our neighbors were from Florida, Ohio, DC and Louisiana. It is quite of a drive, if you ask me.

With Gabriel, there was not much music for me. I saw bits of concerts and I really liked a presentation of a troupe from SF. But I could enjoy the whole The Police concert on Saturday evening as Gabriel fell asleep on his blanked-covered wagon the third music. No wonder he was tired. Gabriel had so much fun talking to people around while we were waiting for the band and I saw them laughing every once in a while. I wonder what Gabriel was telling them. A few meters from us there were 2 topless girls, body painted red and completely naked guy talking to his penis... I was expecting to see more wild things but this was about it. The concert was very good, they opened with Message in a Bottle and they playied for more than 1 hour. For the encore, Sting came back, took his T-shirt off and sang a couple more soungs. I wonder if he knows he is hot...

It was so hot (not Sting hot) during the day, even for Brazilian standard. We used tons of sunscreen and we had an overdose of Gatorade. There were mist tents to help but showers were 10 dollars! Jens bought a solar shower and this was our salvation.

I asked Jens if he would like to go back next year and he said only if Peter Gabriel is playing. I hope he is not...

Stuck in traffic.

The shower experience. This was the first day, with shorts. The subsequent showers were without shorts (picture censored).

The Sony tent, cool and literally cool.

Lunch time.

A city of tents.

Dancing with Gabriel at the Manu Chao concert.
Gabriel spent most of the time making mud pie. He didn't care about the music.

Kids playing at the camp ground. A nice father hauled enough water (at 6 AM!) to fill the pool.

Wow, what an adventure! great pictures...it seems like you were in a kind of modern Woodstock, cool!.I love The Police (not Sting...and he's not hot...nooooo!!). I hope to enjoy The Police this july with some friends (in Tampa I think). Last saturday Carlos and Cristobal also had a musical adventure. They went there (Tampa) to see Rush (it was fun and 'majestic'). And please Gisele, tell Jens that my husband could be a good pal to see Peter Gabriel next year.
Un beso, Clau

This experience told with the pictures is a lot of fun, at least for us readers! As I said, you can tell you've done it, you had the experience and you don't need to do it again haha! I just wish I had been there with you two dancing in the Manu Chao concert!

Well, Jens should have plenty of opportunities to see his Gabriel at home. Does he still need to see him in concert? Funny story, interesting experience.
